Ghana: Our Future Lies In Sustainable Galamsey Mining

Not too long ago, Ghanaians had the rude shock of their lives when they were told that the entire River Birim was polluted as a result of the activities of illegal miners, otherwise known as galamsey operators.

The situation was so serious that the water treatment plant at Kyebi, the traditional headquarters of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area and administrative capital of the East Akyem Municipal Assembly, had to be shut down because it was just not possible for the treatment of water to go on.
