Unfortunately, illegal mining activities are wreaking havoc on Ghana's rivers and streams. Miners often use heavy machinery and toxic chemicals like mercury and cyanide to extract gold, which has led to the pollution of water bodies. Sedimentation from mining activities has clogged rivers, reduced water quality and disrupted aquatic ecosystems.
