Sierra Leone Embarks on $2.7 Million Project to Transform Artisanal Gold Mining

  In an effort to reform Sierra Leone’s artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in collaboration with Conservation International, has launched the $2.7 million GEF GOLD+ project. Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), this initiative aims to formalize ASGM operations, reduce mercury usage, and promote sustainable mining practices.
