Effect of recent artisanal small-scale gold mining on the contamination of surface river sediment: Case of Gambia River, Kedougou region, southeastern Senegal

 The research conducted in the Kedougou region of southeastern Senegal provides critical insights into the environmental impacts of artisanal small-scale gold mining (ASGM) on mercury contamination in river sediments. This study marks the first comprehensive inventory of mercury levels in this area, where mercury is commonly utilized for gold amalgamation.
