It concentrates, among other things, on the adaptation of (often outdated) laws in line with current developments in the sector; reducing mercury pollution by introducing environmentally sustainable methods of gold extraction, mitigating damages to natural landscapes by using new mining technologies, capacity-building activities for affected communities by the small-scale gold mining and the state governance institutions to cope with the effects of the sector.
