According to the National Action Plan to reduce and/or eliminate the use of mercury in artisanal and small-scale gold mining in Burundi (PAN) published in 2019 in December, the use of mercury is a reality in artisanal and small-scale mining operations (EAPO). It is noted that 26% of approved EAPOs used mercury.
