Sudanese Miners: Worried after stopping the use of mercury in gold extraction

Sudanese miners have expressed concern about the cabinet decision to stop the use of mercury and cyanide in gold extraction.

The miners said the decision would create a “horrible situation” among hundreds of traditional miners after they mortgaged their property for loans to buy “mills” to extract the precious metal.
