World Environmental Health Day: Groups express concern over rise in global mercury production

As the World Environmental Health Day 2017 is being celebrated across the world on Tuesday September 26, 2017, a global non-government organisation has expressed concern over skyrocketing mercury production across the world.
Presently, about 156 countries convened for the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention in Geneva as a new United Nation report shows mercury mining skyrocketing in the last 5 years.
The report indicate that much of that mercury is used in artisanal and small scale gold mining (ASGM), the largest source of global mercury pollution.
