S.U. Professor to Co-Chair International Conference on Mercury in Rhode Island

Now he says the largest source of mercury pollution comes from developing countries that use it to extract gold from deposits.
"Then they boil the mercury off to concentrate the gold, and that releases into the atmosphere and soil. It's really a poor person's way for gold mining, so it's relatively popular in 
poor countries.  That's a large source of this global air pollution."
