Cyanide spillage sees Aureus suspend New Liberty operations

Aureus Mining has temporarily suspended operations at the New Liberty Gold Mine in Liberia due to a cyanide spillage.
The TSX- and AIM-listed gold producer said heavy rainfall and problems with the detoxification circuit in the process plant caused a small overflow of weak acid dissociated cyanide onto the wetlands area within its mining lease area. According to the company, the spillage, which took place some 5 kilometres from the nearest settlement, has had no adverse effect on any human settlement.
