Take action to stop gold mining at Puhipuhi

Northland hapu Ngati Hau and Mine Watch Northland are running a training session in Whakapara tonight for people willing to take action to stop gold mining at Puhipuhi just north of Whangarei.
Spokesperson Vaughan Potter says Evolution Mining and the governemnt don't care about the community or the environment in their search for the previous metal.
He says the threat comes from the mercury that will be released by any mining or exploration.
"If they're drilling or using open cast we will get the dust from the mercury and if it gets into our aquifers we have no way of tracking where it goes. It will head down to our drinking water at the bottom of the hill and even head out to the Kaipara where the snapper are spawning," he says.
Mine Watch Northland is advising people in the area not to talk to Evolution
