Residents of Villa Claret, like many other river-based communities, survive by growing small plots of yucca, pineapple, sugarcane, and other plants. They also raise animals, fish, and pan for gold. But today they are afraid to eat fish from the Atrato River because of mercury contamination from mining, including from large hulking dragones and smaller dragasstationed along the river.
