Levels of cyanide in the waters close to the deadly Tianjin explosion site are as high as 356 times acceptable limits, Chinese authorities said Thursday – but they declared the city’s drinking water was safe.
Sodium cyanide, which has a variety of industrial uses including gold mining, is a toxic white crystal or powder.
The Tianjin municipal government said the fish had been examined and no cyanide compounds had been detected.
