At BMCC, Fung-Khee took part in a research project with fellow LSAMP member and student researcher Aned Gomez Ramirez, as well as science major Lionel Colon. Under the direction of science professors Matthew Andria and Sarah Salm, they are examining the use of bacteria as a bioremediation tool.
“The application of bacteria to break down things like mercury and cyanide is something that communities can use themselves,” Fung-Khee says.
“We, the researchers, would have to get the bacteria to them and do training with them. I want to be part of that.”
