Note to tuna fans: Mercury levels are rising

US scientists studying Hawaiian yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) says mercury concentrations are increasing at a rate of 3.8 per cent or more a year, according to their study in the journal Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry .
In Hawaii yellowfin is known as ahi and is usually eaten raw in sushi or seared. South Pacific and New Zealand fished yellowfin is also sold here but it's not known how impacted by northern hemisphere pollution they are.
