Ygarza visited Yanacocha mine located in Cochamarca, Peru get a first
hand look at threatened lands. His group met with defenders of the lakes
near to the gold mines who said Newmont, one of the companies managing
the mine, wanted to dry up the lakes. He added the water is Cochamarca
is undrinkable, as the mines have tainted the water in the area. Locals
are forced to purchase bottled water instead.
