What Price saw were children doing such back-breaking labor as digging,
crushing and hauling rock in the most dangerous conditions, as well as
being exposed to mercury and other toxic materials. Some of the children
even were used for compressor mining, diving into deep narrow pits
filled with water and working in total darkness with only a breathing
tube feeding them air from a compressor on the surface. Sometimes, the
pit walls collapse, burying them alive.
