Colombian filmmaker's 'Chocó' reveals sexism, violence, capital gain

“Chóco” addresses the intersection between gender, race and the national capital interest. This intersection is best illustrated by the women working on the gold mines of the region who are subjected to both mercury poisoning and aggressive treatment while on the job, and sexual and emotional abuse from the men in their personal lives, all the while attempting to raise their children in a loving environment.
