“Chóco” addresses the intersection between gender, race and the national
capital interest. This intersection is best illustrated by the women
working on the gold mines of the region who are subjected to both
mercury poisoning and aggressive treatment while on the job, and sexual
and emotional abuse from the men in their personal lives, all the while
attempting to raise their children in a loving environment.
