said it is also currently working to establish a process for third-party
inspections of every tailings impoundment in the province.
“This independent investigation into the breach would be in addition to the ongoing investigation by the Chief Inspector of Mines and the Conservation Officer Service,’’ the B.C. MEM said in a press release Friday.
The B.C. MEM has said there are roughly 100 tailings pond at mines that are either operating or closed in the province.
