Winner of IMC National Media Award for Best Reporting in Agriculture Artisanal gold Mining: contributing to low agricultural production

On a recent tour to major Gold Miming communities across the country, this reporter saw more than 200 dug- up plots and some abandoned by Artisanal, Small Scale or Industrial Miners. In Sierra Leone, it is hard to distinguish between the artisanal or small scale mining as most of the individuals engaged in this kind of business hide under the protection of small scale, or artisanal mining in other to evade fulfilling the requirements of the state, such as paying license fees, environmental assessment and many other state obligation.
