Venezuela moves ahead on reducing malaria

The mobilization of people associated with mining practices hinders early diagnosis and treatment of malarial cases, increasing contagiousness and lethality of this disease. Furthermore, the use of eco-degrading practices of gold mining produce large pools of water that support the growth of highly contagious anopheles mosquitoes and pollution of rivers with mercury and other toxic substances.
