Start date for Europe’s biggest gold mine delayed

Rosia Montana has become one of the biggest political issues in Romania as the gold mine plans would mean moving hundreds of Romanians, demolishing dozens of houses and two churches and cutting down 1,000 hectares of forestry.
They would be replaced by a dam and a huge pile of mining tailings that opponents say would destroy one of the most beautiful areas of Europe and wreak environmental damage by using cyanide to extract gold.
