women on a mining board help preserve the social
licence of a resource company as they have a measureable impact on
Environmental, Social and Governance issues. PwC says that for
the mining companies it examined, there was a lower amount of water
usage for companies with women on the boards – and this usage steadily
decreased as the number of women on the board increased.
Also, ESG measurements from Bloomberg show a clear
correlation between female representation on mining boards and
increased disclosure and transparency. And further analysis shows that
the amount companies spend on community projects increases with the
number of women on the board; as does the likelihood of a company having
a Corporate Social Responsibility or Sustainability committee; having
an anti-bribery ethics policy; and signing up to the UN Global Compact
on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
