Geamăna, Romania..cyanide pollution

Geamăna is an abandoned village in Romania. Geamăna truly looks like an amazing place but it has a very sad story which starts when the valley was flooded by polluted water from a copper-open-pit mine (Roșia Poieni). The cyanide-based mining residuals flooded the valley and the village which is nowadays became an abandoned village with a smelly reddish lake. Although the colors are beautiful, the stench near the lake it’s unbearable and the ecosystem it’s completely destroyed. Unfortunately, a second project nearby is about to begin (2014) a gold mine (cyanide based mining as well).
