Treaty gives governments 15 years to end all mercury mining

Delegates from 140 nations and territories have signed the United Nations Minamata Convention on Mercury with the international treaty set to take effect in 90 days.
The treaty gives governments 15 years to end all mercury mining. However, environmental groups have criticised the accord for failing to address the use of mercy in small-scale gold mining.
