Ontario: Wesdome Gold Mines fined for worker injuries

A  court in Marathon has fined a mining company $130,000 for two separate incidents that resulted in injuries to workers.
In one case, the Ministry of Labour had charged Wesdome Gold Mines after a March, 2012 accident at the mill operation for the Eagle River mine, 35 kilometers south of White River. The accident resulted in an employee suffering cyanide poisoning and chemical burns on his leg.

The ministry said the worker inadvertently stepped into a hole that wasn't visible because it was covered with dirty water. The hole also contained sodium cyanide.
