The mines are scheduled for construction close to a seismic fault
line, on a mountain that supplies water to thousands below, opening up
the possibility of water contamination.
The area's gorges will be blocked and built over to construct tailing
reservoirs whose function is to hold mining waste. The tailings are
likely to include arsenic, mercury, and possibly cyanide.
