Responsible Mining

Toxic metals are dangerous for they tend to bioaccumulate. Compounds accumulate in living things any time they are taken up and stored faster than they are broken down (metabolized) or excreted. Metals like lead and mercury from the mining site may flow to creeks and rivers. Hence, the impact of possible mercury pollution due to mining extends far beyond the site.

I am not against mining. I am against irresponsible mining.

Responsible mining is gaining attention among mining companies. This is an advocacy to change the old mining activity of just digging and profiting. This reforms the mining activity. It is also a slogan by some mining companies to promote operation acceptance in the community. This marketing strategy is effective as is shows that their companies are environmentally and/or socially sound.
