Toxic metals are dangerous for they tend to bioaccumulate. Compounds
accumulate in living things any time they are taken up and stored
faster than they are broken down (metabolized) or excreted. Metals like
lead and mercury from the mining site may flow to creeks and rivers.
Hence, the impact of possible mercury pollution due to mining extends
far beyond the site.
I am not against mining. I am against irresponsible mining.
