The 12-line question asked local residents whether they accepted the
“exploration, exploitation, treatment, transformation, transportation
and washing of materials” from the company’s large-scale gold mine.
It also asked if they accepted the “storage…and use of materials
harmful to health and the environment,” like cyanide and other toxic
substances, and “the use of surface and underground water” for gold
mining, which threatens the water supply for human consumption and
agricultural use.
