Mancos gold mining operation dangers downplayed by owner

The owner of a historic gold mine and mill near Mancos said his company did build an unpermitted gold mill and did use mercury without permission to refine gold, but he said it is not true that he created any environmental dangers or violated state mining regulations.........

The state's list of possible violations at the Red Arrow range from the unregulated use of mercury to refine gold at an unapproved milling facility to the failure to control weeds on the premises.
The possible violations came to light after the Red Arrow was placed in receivership April 11. That occurs when a business is failing and a receiver is appointed to try to recoup losses. It often leads to the dissolution of the business.
