After purchasing these lands one of the first things Freeport McMoRan did was drill new wells in a curved line around the perimeter. My concern is that, according to almost everyone I talk to and a great Web page titled “History of mining in Green Valley area,” the wells are used primarily to pump water to the mine, which requires a massive supply of water, and secondly, to possibly curtail the pollution plume creeping toward Green Valley.
This suggests that the sulfur and other pollutants have passed the first line of wells dug years ago and are steadily moving closer to Green Valley homes.
