Proposed mining project in Fiji will have to satisfy landowners

Mr Finau says good progress is being made on the proposed copper and gold mine despite some aspects of the Environment Impact Assessment being on hold.
He says landowners regularly meet with other stakeholders to discuss the project.
“They bring up issues from time to time regarding their observations of the current work and the company also brings up issues for discussion. The government is clear in its position; if the environment impact assessment is not satisfactory then the project will have some problems going forward.”
Malakai Finau says the government and company are committed to minimising environmental impacts.
