A mining exploration company has criticised the Northern Territory for imposing what it calls a poorly thought out environmental levy on the mining industry.
The Territory Government has announced that, from October, it will require mining companies to pay a 1 per cent levy on new and existing Environmental Rehabilitation Security Bonds.
It says the Mining Remediation Fund will be used to address legacy mine liabilities.
The levy is expected to raise about six million dollars in its first year of operation.
