Artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) has become the main source of income for millions of men and women throughout the world, but concerns about the sector’s social and environmental impact are growing. Countries will need to deploy proactive programs for positive development in the ASM sector and to mitigate its negative consequences while ensuring it fully delivers its rural development potential. Common challenges call for common action.
The Sustainable Artisanal Mining (SAM) Project, jointly implemented by the Mongolian and Swiss governments, is therefore convening an International Conference to discuss current trends and share experiences about successful solutions.
