Suriname: Sweet water sources decline in quality

The quality of surface water is declining due to the rapid pace of pollution, disposal of unprocessed waste in rivers and the use of mercury in small scale gold mining. The most important conclusion during the two-day water workshop by the Ministry of Natural Resources (NH) is that in order to safeguard the billions of liters of clean water sources in Suriname authorities need to draft an integral environment policy.
