Last Friday, Sr. Superintendent Edgar Danao, regional director of the CIDG-PNP in the Zamboanga Peninsula led his men in raiding Mondings compound in Balabag. Armed with 21 search warrants issued by a regional trial court judge in San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur, the police swooped down the compound that housed 14 rod mill and dozens of carbon-in pulp plants. Yielded during the six-hour tension filled operations were 13 high powered firearms that include an M16 armalite rifle and KG9 colt rifle, 4,000 meters of detonating cord; four sacks of commercial dynamites and assorted ammunitions. The police also seized tons of cyanide, a highly toxic chemical used in gold mining operation and gallons of nitric acid.
