MY EXPERIENCE IN AN ILLEGAL GOLD CAMP IN PERU

Mercury : Almost everyone knows the  devastating effect of mercury pollution  on ecosystems and humans. A team of about eight mining workers, as I described in the previous section can use a week  several liters of mercury . This entirely mercury  ends in the forest floor , either directly during the amalgamated in the drum or in vapor form during the combustion of the mercury-gold mixture (and hence, by condensation, back to ground). Given the large number of aquifers, underground streams and rivers found in the Peruvian Amazon, I would say that  the ecological disaster has dyes tragedy . In addition, workers often live in illegal mining camps along the extraction area, so  breathe mercury vapor  constantly bathe in  water with high concentration of metal  liquid and generally are exposed to large amounts of mercury for months or years.
