Ghanaian scientist says water pollution threatens coastal fishes

A Ghanaian scientist has lamented that though fish consumption is absolutely essential to food security, illegal mining and oil drilling pose a major threat to coastal and freshwater fishes in the country.

The Director-General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Dr. Rose Mamaa Entsua-Mensah,   said the eating of fish had become unsafe as a result of the release of toxic substances into water bodies by miners, which were harmful to living creatures.
