Ghana: Miners Hold Safety Workshop At Kenyase

Dr Aubynn  noted that the lack of political will to address the ‘galamsey’ menace had emboldened these illegal miners to cause havoc to the environment by polluting water bodies with mercury  environment by polluting water bodies with mercury and other dangerous chemicals such as cyanide.

Dr Aubynn said the mining industry continued to be a major contributor of value to the Ghanaian economy and added that in 2011, the industry returned about $3.1 billion, representing 75 per cent of its mineral revenue, to the country to cater for its local obligations as well as to procure inputs locally.
