Raub: Alleged negative health effects inconclusive, says Seng Giaw

It was reported in 2010 that residents living in Bukit Koman, where the Raub Australia Gold Mining Sdn Bhd (RAGM) is located and operates, have complained of air pollution.

The mine is located just 900m away from the village, posing health concerns to residents.

Some residents have complained of community members falling sick regularly, being afflicted with skin and eye conditions, breathing difficulties and stress.

Although an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was conducted in 1996, the mine began operations 11 years later, raising questions over the validity of the EIA.

The mine employs a carbon in leach (CIL) and cyanide mining process, which is practised by gold mines around the world.
