Officials from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Cordillera said the EO will regulate pocket mining to ensure environmental protection, enhance revenue collections and ensure consistency of local ordinances with the new mining order.
Geologist Faye Apil, MGB officer-in-charge regional director, said the EO will standardize mining operations in areas declared as Minahang Bayan in accordance with Republic Act 7076 or the Small-scale Mining Law.
Benguet is rich in mineral deposit like gold, silver and chromite and large scale mining companies like Lepanto and Philex are operating here. (JDP/JBZ-PIA CAR)
