Newmont CEO: Conditions Not There for Peru's Minas Conga to Proceed

The conditions to allow U.S.-based Newmont Mining Corp.(NEM) to move ahead with the $5.0 billion Minas Conga copper and gold project don't currently exist, the company's Chief Executive Richard O'Brien said......

In an interview on Friday, Mr. O'Brien said it will take significant changes to create an environment that will allow the hobbled project to move to production.

Protests from opponents in northern Peru have put Conga at risk, although the company is working to increase support for the project, one of the biggest planned investments in Peru's history
