Small-scale gold miner in Africa

A small-scale gold mining operation in southern Ghana. Struggling to support their families, these miners toil drudgingly for more than twelve hours a day: wading knee-high in water polluted with chemical effluents; using mercury to extract gold with their bare hands; operating mineral processing machines without protective equipment; and living in makeshift shanties - all for what's considered an excellent salary in Ghana, twelve dollars a day...the negative social and environmental externalities of consumption.
