HE BEKWAI District Police Command has embarked on an inspection tour of the small scale mining sites in the area to assess environmental degradation and damage caused to water bodies from mining activities in the area.
The exercise followed concerns raised by residents, as a result of the death of 27-year old Kwaku Nsiah, a small-scale miner who got drowned in an old mine pit at Edwinase, near Abodom in the Bekwai Municipality, at the weekend.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Daniel Amoako and the Municipal Police Commander has proposed a meeting with stakeholders and those who own mining concessions in the area to prevail on them to reclaim dug up pits, as well as ensure the purity of the water bodies in the area.
