"Do you want toxic waste and if so where do you want it? And how is it going to be contained?"
Mr Baigent-Mercer says: "Wayne Brown has jumped ahead and talked about the most destructive forms of mining, the hard rock mining for gold, silver and so forth and that's the problem.
"Decisions have been bulldozed over us without us being informed and working out the future that we all want for the region."
He says gold mining provides an example.
In places where tailings have not been properly contained, or spilled due to an accident, neighbouring land has been poisoned.
