It is home to thousands of small scale miners due to its rich gold deposits, but Balabag village in the hinterlands of Bayog town here is a disaster in the making.
With local miners crisscrossing underneath the rich-gold mountains, the village hosts more than 100 tunnels for small-scale mining operations since the discovery of the deposits in the 1980s.
