According to the report, the discovery of gold in the state led to artisan miners using rudimentary mining methods on earth with very high levels of lead, and children as young as age 8 working in the informal mining sector, dropping down into the mines, processing the ore, using mercury to extract the gold, and selling goods at the processing site.
