Stop Development Of Environmentally-Devastating Gold Mine In Colombia

The central Andean province of Tolima in Colombia is currently at risk of becoming another casualty of big-mining, and the Colombian government’s increasingly lenient stance on the impacts of environmentally-damaging operations.  The region, which is host to one of the country’s most important freshwater systems, also boasts cloud forests and other protected reserves.  These irreplaceable natural resources will be significantly damaged if the AngloGold Ashanti company proceeds with its current plan to construct an opencast mine, which would leave gaping holes in the mountainside and contribute to increased water pollution from sediment and extraction chemical runoff.
