Apart from mining, Shengena forest is also threatened by uncontrolled harvesting of forestry products and use of chemicals in mining activities.But neither the Same District commissioner, Mr Ibrahim Marwa, nor the executive director, Mr Joseph Mkude, picked their phones when contacted for comment.
The massive environmental destruction in the forest was first reported by Democratic Party (DP) leaders in the district. They had blamed government officials for closing their eyes over the destruction of the natural resources.
